G&L Guitars
G&L became Leo Fenders third, and last love child. After having created both Fender and Music Man, Leo continued his journey with G&L. Basically wanting to improve what he had started out in 1948, when he created his first electric guitar – the Broadcaster.
After Leo sold the Fender company to CBS in 1965, he spent some of his money building workshops in Fullerton, CA. The idea was for small businesses to lease these buildings, but Leo would soon be working out of these workshops, where he had started CLF Research – a small consulting company for guitar companies. Music Man started in these buildings but was sold to Ernie Ball, who moved the production. And in 1980 Leo and George Fullerton, along with long time associate Dale Hyatt, launched the G&L company (George & Leo) which still exists in the original buildings on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, a historic landmark for any guitarfreak.
After Leo died, his wife Phyllis sold the company to the McLaren family, who also owns the BBE brand. Brothers David and John McLaren are running the company, and have improved the business and the instruments since the early 90’s.
Several machines as well as some of the tooling, was made by Leo, and is still used in production today, keeping the legacy alive. Those who are already familiar with G&L know that the brand is for real, and G&L is producing great guitars and basses, that have evolved from Leos many creations from the 60’s and 70’s
We are proud to be able to offer G&L instruments to our customers.
