These Hum free pickups were made famous by Malmsteen and others, looking for the classic sound of the 70's (think Blackmore i.e.) But any Stratplayer looking for a great fat and distinct sound, will love these. We think the DiMarzio idea of having everything pre assembled, is fantastic. The pickup configuration is an HS-4™ in the neck and middle positions and an HS-3™ in the bridge. The HS-4™ pickups provide plenty of presence and brilliance, particularly on the high strings, with no 60-cycle hum. The HS-3™ is very similar to the HS-4™, with a symmetrical magnet stagger that helps to produce a sweet overdrive tone and no jagged edges. These qualities combine perfectly with a heavily distorted amp because they don’t get muddy or messy. Great for classical 70's tones. HS-4 The HS-4™ is the vintage magnet-stagger version of the HS-3™. While there is obviously a strong resemblance to the HS-3™, the vintage stagger recreates the string-balance of single-coils from the 50s, producing a unique sound in the neck and middle positions with both chords and single-note soloing.
